Tara King – Class of 2023

My name is Tara King and I recently graduated from the Cultural Heritage Studies course at Cathal Brugha FET College. I absolutely enjoyed the year I spent studying at Cathal Brugha FET. The Cultural Heritage Studies course offers a range of fascinating modules such as Folklore and Ethnology studies, Archaeology, European Studies, and Local History. Not only were these modules taught in a classroom setting, but we also went on guided tours and trips. I believe this enhanced my learning experience and allowed me to embrace the course. I would 100% recommend the Cultural Heritage Studies course at Cathal Brugha FET. This course provided me with the confidence, skills and knowledge that allow me to progress in to third level education. I have really benefited from this course and I am very grateful for the support the college have provided in the last year.

Aaron Maguire – Class of 2023

My name is Aaron Maguire and I am a 2023 Graduate of Culture and Heritage Studies at Cathal Brugha FET College. What I liked the most about the CHS course was lots of trips to Historical/Cultural sites which gave me a better appreciation and understanding of Irish culture and history. I would like to go on to study Religious Education and History at DCU and this course has given me the skills necessary to be able to take that step. Cathal Brugha FET College is an amazing college with friendly staff and caring teachers, and I would recommend anyone to take a course here.

Daniel Munro – Class of 2023

My time studying on the CHS course has greatly transformed my confidence and skillsets in academia. When I was a leaving cert student I really struggled with school and had very low self-esteem regarding studying. I didn't know where to start, and didn't have the motivation to complete my homework, let alone study for the biggest exam a second level student will ever have to sit. When results day rolled around by some miracle, I found out I didn't fail anything however I didn't nearly have enough points to progress onto 3rd level. I was at a loss and didn't know where on earth my life was headed, however looking back that was the best possible thing to have happened to me as through researching plan B I found the QQI level 5 Cultural and Heritage Studies course at Cathal Brugha FET College.

Located on Marlborough Street a convenient 5-minute walk from Connolly Station. The CHS course had a variety of different modules that are not only engaging but will teach you a wide range of skills transferable to college life. Academic writing-language that is appropriate to use in those contexts, how to structure an assignment, the art of citing and referencing, how to collect adequate sources, giving you opportunities through presentations to improve public speaking and so much more. The Communications and PPD modules provide you with skills for those wishing to enter employment such as STAR interview techniques, setting up CVs and how to research your ideal career.

The subject content itself is fascinating as it helps build awareness of Irelands History, Heritage, and Culture with topics such as The Dublin tenements, folklore regarding death, funerals and wakes in rural Ireland, archaeology - what is archaeology and the various archaeological periods in Irish History, and the heritage and tourism industry in Ireland. The course is taught by 3 amazing, supportive, and knowledgeable tutors who are rooting for you to succeed and who offer all the supports and equip skills for you to reach your full potential. I was able to achieve 8 distinctions by the years end and I'm now eligible to be accepted into a variety of courses I wouldn't have dreamed possible a year ago. If you are looking for a plc course The Cultural Heritage Studies course at Cathal Brugha FET campus is the course for you!
